Greece women’s team will face Wales, Turkey and newcomers Netherlands as part of the World Cup 2025 qualifying process, in a draw that was conducted by European Rugby League in Leeds on Wednesday night.
From this group, the top two will qualify for World Cup 2025 and the bottom two will be eliminated.
Greece has played twice before with Turkey, losing 40-4 in 2019 and winning 8-4 in 2022, whereas this will be the first time coming up against Wales and Netherlands.
It will become known in the coming weeks, which teams will have the benefit of two home fixtures, as well as the dates of the matches.
Greek captain, Rania Koutsikou is now based in Wales as part of her university studies and is a member of the Cardiff Demons Rugby League club. The match against Wales will see her come up against many of her team-mates at club level.
Commenting on the draw, Rania Koutsikou said: “Only one word could describe better what we felt when we saw our group – excitement! After the victorious results against Turkey and Serbia last year, undoubtedly we will work even harder to achieve a position at the Rugby League World Cup in France.”
